QUESTION: If I was offered a cable network series...
Let's say, hypothetically, I was offered a series by two major competing networks in the US.

However, both networks wanted different versions of the show and required a compromise in my content.

Which do you think I should choose...

Show 1) A Jersey Shore type reality trash show with little or no depth. Slightly less dangerous locations.

Show 2) Politically-correct, watered down show with lots of depth, but little or no trash. Slightly more dangerous places.

Also, if the locations were the same, would that make any difference?

How can it be "NaughtyNomad" without some trash (one night stands, drunkness, whores, 3rd world dangerous shitholes etc) ?!? Wink

Keep it fun, entertaining, and interesting at the very least.

Name isnt that important, try to keep it though. Hypothetically speaking you would most likely have to make compromises.

In that case pick the lesser of the evils.

As much as I cannot tolerate shows like Jersey Shore, I can't deny it's been hugely successful, and if you can take your show and add some of the formula that has propelled shows such as JS and Geordie Shore you're off to a winner. There would be a familiarity in the format yet a deviation as the main theme would regard travel.

With so many people engaged and interested with traveling, and also a lack of any decent travel shows on tv, your product would easily garner attention and propel the Zolo media machine to new heights.

I don't want to see anything that resemble Jersey Shore as I hate that shit.

However the other version doesn't sound that great either.

I hope this is a little hint that you've been offered a series.

Do whatever is best for you anyway.

Neil Skywalker sold his books rights to make a movie recently, didn't he? I'm thinking you won't need to compromise too much. If you have to compromise, think about what you wanna do in the future? If you wanna play music, a jersey shore type show might get you more fans that are your "demographic". On the other hand, if you want a more proper job or want to be a serious host in future, maybe the more serious gig will help.

My opinion is whatever you want to do and wherever you want to be in future, pick the option that will help you get to that place.

Good luck and when you're a millionaire, perhaps have a cameo for all the NN posters here in your show haha... Celebration party

I think both options are awesome!

I would consider factors like:

1) which option has less chance of cancellation -- from TV shows to video games, cancellation is common in the entertainment industry.
2) which people that you are dealing with have the most integrity and talent.
3) which network has more success or viewers.
4) most important: which show will you be more passionate about making.

Quick question...can I be an extra? Smile

From my short time here I can tell, you have a really strong community that believes in you, and you are very in touch with them. Its safe to say everyone will support you no matter what you do. I think that you started running this blog not for the money, but for the freedom and fun times.

Just don't compromise on what is important to you, and if you have reason to believe that this deal will make you a less happy person... its ultimately your call. I would suggest reading up on reflections from those who have had shows about themselves (for some reason ceasar milan, Rick Steves, come to mind.) Good luck, and I can see why you would get television offers after your Mogadishu series has gone viral.

I'm pretty sure this blog doesn't make him any money directly aside from indirect book sales from visitors.

However hopefully he can end up being super successful because of it.

Apparently so. I don't know if it's guaranteed that it's going to be turned into a movie apparently lots of scripts get bought but then never make it including The Game and other famous books from what I read over on RVF.

Be cool if it did. Haven't read his book because I don't dig his writing style based on what he had on his blog but it's a cool story.

Bottom line is sex sells....I would do it more in your current theme. I don't know of many like that out there. If u do less trash and more depth then you will just be another guy doing a travel show *yawn*

You should try to keep as much of the original formula as possible, that is what makes it so appealing and original. Of course if you were offered a show you would have to make some compromises in order to get the show aired, but try and limit the changes as much as possible.

Thanks for the input, guys. To clarify, I HAVE NOT been offered a series.

There is a long process before anything like that could happen.
However, there has been some stuff going on behind the scenes relevant to the question I posed at the start of this thread.
I can't say too much about it. Don't get your hopes up. I certainly am not.

So, Jersey Shore versus Ross Kemp? Or Both?

Stick with what you are doing. Don't try and dumb or tone it down to try and get a TV series because it takes away from why people like it in the first place.
