How much would you pay for a sick language guide?!?
I am putting together a mint Vietnamese Language guide. The current options are shit online.

This will have everything.

Grammar
Alphabet
Pronunciation
Time / Date
Numbers / Counting
500 most common words with translations and phrases
Audio file of said words with correct pronunciation by a southern local

Pretty much one stop shop to become conversational.

Assuming you wanted to learn a difficult tonal language like Vietnamese, how much would you guys be willing to pay?

Do you think that is actually enough to be conversational? I mean I know somewhere between 800-1000 words, and I wouldn't say I can have a solid conversation in Russian. Me personally, I wouldn't pay much. Maybe 1.99 if it is an app or something, but these resources are available free online...at least for russian, just not all together. Duolingo, masterrussian, book on 10,000 most frequently used words, and the top 555 most used verbs....I know duolingo has Vietnamese, but not sure how easily accessible everything else is

Easy.

Can be semi conversational with only 300.

http://funwithlanguages.tumblr.com/post/...-300-words

By conversational I dont mean fluent. I simply mean able to express most basic ideas in the most basic of forms.

I def dont know 500 Spanish words and I can get by pretty decently, def all the small talk. And that is with not knowing the grammar well. Now if the convo is on the economy or something with a shit ton of random nouns, then yea that wont be practical.

Just having an audio file of a Southerner saying the english word then the word in Vietnamese 3 times is worth it's weight in gold. Pronunciation is the hardest thing about a tonal language.

I have yet to find one solid website on Vietnamese (sure as hell not Southern accent) in general.

Trouble is nobody wants to learn Vietnamese.

Unless you're trying to wife up a farm girl, I can't imagine why you would either.

Just lol about being semi-conversational with just 300 words. I remember when I had a 2,000 word vocabulary in French/German. and I was still lost most of the time when natives spoke amongst themselves. Vietnamese has no cognates, an alien phonology, and a different sentence structure.
There's no way you're understanding shit with 300 words. That I can tell you...

^^

Penty of ppl studying Vietnamese.

Sentence structure is the same ie Subject + Verb (+ Object) + Adverb

No verb conjugations. Which is a Godsend.

Like I said, the hardest thing is the pronunciation.

Americans in the higher net worth developed metro markets where the most potential customers are likely concentrated definitely don't want to hear a Southern accent in an informational/educational product. Lol most Southerners can't even speak English properly.

Can you imagine a great courses lecture on the Philosophers of Ancient Greece by some dude from Alabama"Y'all need tuh see har that Play-tow was a learnin' new thangs from Sock-rat-tease and Ho-more bout his theory of the sowl and love As he was a learning' how tew re-sun as a cit-tee-zen of thuh citee-state in thuh Hellen-mIs-tick age".

Still, you could test the waters with your program on the cheap via making it into a Kindle ebook but I'd outsource the audio if you really do talk like are Reba McIntyre or
Conway Twitty.

I think you'd be better off starting a Vietnam blog, and using this as a free opt-in incentive. Build your email list, and then figure out a service/product to offer the expats there. That's what I'd do anyway...

But in general, there isn't much money in language learning. People can't be bothered, especially English speakers.

You're not going to be able to read the newspaper, watch the TV, etc..with just 300 words.

The average 4 year old has a vocabulary of 5,000 words. You'll sound dumber than a toddler with 300 lol.

Hell naw. This is a one time thing.

I am gonna make it for myself.

Might as well sell it.

If it sells great, if not no biggie.

I'd much rather just pay someone 50 dollars for all this. Shit I'd probably pay 100.

Very time consuming tideous.

300 is just to be able to have 1 on 1 basic casual conversation.

The top 100 words are used in 50% of our daily language.

We have an immense vocabulary, but for basic shit we only use a tiny fraction of it.

What I'm making will be about 500 words / lemmas.

More than enough to get someone by if they understand the grammar and pronunciation.

Not interested in watching TV or reading newspapers. I just want to be able to meet people and have casual basic conversations.

DBut even give a shot if the grammar or usage is 100 percent correct.
