Best area to live in Manila?
Heading to Boracay from January till likely end of March then will likely move to Manila.

I've stayed in Makati and Malate before. Malate was horrendous shithole where naked babies would play in garbage and unconvincing trannies would offer me freebies walking down the street during the day. Online dating was a fucking headache due to malate not being in search function.

Makati was nicer but more expensive (probably would be fine if staying long term and went studio route) also online dating was very practical for meeting.

I will likely be playing poker at the metro club in Ortigas and I will be looking to train some form of boxing/bjj/mma. I guess I will be taking taxis a lot but shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Any of you guys have a lot of experience in certain areas? Any recommendations?

Was thinking about it but after some research on RVF apparently it can be a real bitch to get to due to traffic. Like distance is not that far but traffic is completely insane. Apparently a lot of girls became put off by finding out the guy was located in Ortigas.

Sounds like a pretty nice area though.

The casino I'd probably play at during evenings and nights and when I was there I could get to places in near half the time I could in the day.

I guess main priorities would be

1 cheaper but still decent studio in safe enough area

2 easy to meet point for girls- the one girl I met in makati when I was there for a day took me to her aunties miniature version of a mansion in a closed off posh neighbourhood which had pools and I banged her in the study. I'd like to be close to an area where girls are at least middle class.

3 having solid gym within nearby area would be a solid

It's such a huge area and 95% of the gyms have the worst web sites Iv ever seen. Going to take a lot of research.

Nomad Phillipines-
Since you're based in the Phillipines and Manny Pacquaio is one of the most famous Filipinos and started really taking off in the boxing World in Manilla-
does Manny have a gym he owns/controls/runs/ or even started out at that's the biggest, baddest top tier boxing gym in the Phillipines? Are there neighborhoods in the city that are known for boxing gyms?

The elorde gym chain seems to be pretty solid. Have a feeling it's going to take boots on the ground to really find out though.

Ortigas does seem to have a tonne of mma gyms and I guess tinder would eliminate the distance problem when searching for girls.

RE: Best area to live in Manila?
i dont know anything about boxing gyms, the ones i have seen have all been open air, no aircon, and didnt look very nice, but i have no idea

the only good gyms ive seen in this country are inside nice malls or in nice condos but no boxing going on

personally i wouldnt suggest living in manila if you arent willing to spend extra to be in a decent condo in a good area of town, not the right city to do cheaply, pretty much the worst city in SEA for that actually

the live poker scene is quite bad from what ive read on 2p2, low buy in games with high rake, even if you are a good player going to be hard to cover life expenses in that game, not to mention going to 1 card club day after day to play in the 1 or 2 games they have running would suck imo.... and the other cardrooms are far away, so if the ortigas game sucks what do you do? not play? force yourself to play in a crap game? hop in a taxi to resorts world and hope the 1 game running there is better?

all that being said ive heard good things about ortigas (years ago) as far as good apartment value (relatively, for manila) and lots of call centers around

RE: Best area to live in Manila?
Iv heard the opposite. That the metro card club is one of the best in Asia. I'm not planning on going everyday just peak times when people are drunk. Iv heard at the higher limits people play much in the same way as they do in Phnom Penh. That is rich people in third world countries who don't give a fuck about money. Iv been playing live recently near every weekend and I enjoy it. Imagine 1/2 cent games but it's 1/2 dollars.

Saying that Boracay just opened a proper casino and after looking at the condo options can't say I'm too keen on Manila at this point. Then again with how the £ is doing I'd actually get places significantly more decent than I was getting in Phnom Penh for like £50 more than I was paying for my basic as fuck place.

Really I'm planning on doing the BPC coaching course so I have at least some form of income in Thailand other than just fighting.

Ok well if that's the case I guess I will look to not committing to more than a couple of months in Manila then.

What stakes were you playing and when would you go to play JJ?

pretty sure if you are going to be a live player in manila you will be much better off being near resorts world than metro card club

Didn't seem to matter too much

Tried

1) City of dreams (pokerstars poker room) many times
2) Metro card club a few times
3) Masters poker club @ Remedios circle

Had some winning sessions, sure but games are too hard to beat. Not sure if reports of collusion or fixed games is true or if I just suck but I basically stopped playing expect once every month or so just to blow off some steam.
